Volunteering is a great way to meet like-minded people who share your enthusiasm for animal welfare. What work is it you want me to do?

Prepare and provide food and water for all the animals in the centre as directed.
Set up pens for new admissions.
Clean, disinfect and maintain the animal accommodation.
Monitor an individual animal's physical condition and patterns of behaviour and report any concerns to staff as soon as possible.
Report any animal welfare concerns to staff immediately.
Read information on display for each animal before seeing to each animal, paying special attention to medication and dietary requirements
Work together with other volunteers (e.g. care assistants, socialisers) and pass on relevant information to each other and to the rest of the team (e.g. changes in behaviour or diet).
Adhere to any other guidelines and notices about the welfare of the animals in the centre.
Volunteer on the agreed weekly day and time, and to notify staff as soon as possible if unable to attend.
Undertake appropriate training when and as required.
Be familiar with and comply with Health and Safety policies and procedures.
Use all equipment as directed by staff and ensure this equipment is returned as directed at the end of the volunteering session, and to report any damaged equipment as soon as possible

Do I need any skills or experience?

You don’t need any specific skills but it might be helpful to have an interest in , some knowledge of or past experience which will help in your role. You will be shown what to do and how so there’s nothing to worry about. It would be helpful if you have some or all of the following.

Experience of animals and the ability to read their behaviour.
Must feel comfortable around animals and have a patient and understanding nature.
Able to work within a team but also capable of working with minimal supervision.
Able to carry out physical tasks. Some moderate lifting will be involved but full Health and Safety training will be given.
Volunteers must be aged 18 or over.

What we ask from you

Volunteers are covered by the Arran Animal Rescue’s liability and personal accident insurance policy. Please check the terms of the cover provided and obtain additional cover if necessary. A summary of the insurance is available from your Volunteer coordinator.
Volunteers must respect the need for confidentiality, please be aware of our Privacy Policy and maintain confidentiality at all times ·
As a volunteer it is important that you understand your personal responsibilities towards your own health and safety and that of others around you. All volunteers must complete our Health & Safety training form before starting as a volunteer.
Volunteers must ensure any fundraising activities adhere to the Arran Animal Rescue’s policies and guidelines, please refer to our fundraising guidelines for more detail. ·
Age restrictions apply to certain volunteer roles in accordance with our insurance cover, for most roles you will need to be 16 or over and if you are under 18 we will request consent of your parents / guardian before you can volunteer ·
If you do something that threatens or damages the reputation of Arran Animal Rescue we will ask you to stop volunteering immediately. ·
The volunteering arrangement can be cancelled at any time by either party, no legally binding contract is in place
